2/16/12
Wow, time is flying by! Can you believe that it is already the middle of February?
As promised, here are your assignments for this week:
1. We introduced a whole bunch of vocabulary yesterday, so please look up the proper definitions to include in your lab journals by next class period.
2. Please follow this link to the flashcards on the solubility rules:
After looking at the flashcards, give the "scatter" game a try. This adds a bit of fun to learning these rules. As proposed in class, if I have the high score by Tuesday at noon, then there will be a quiz next Wednesday on the solubility rules. I am prepared to play the "scatter" game all weekend in order to have the high score.
3. Please review your notes on naming chemical formulas by next class period. Before, in our discussions, we skipped naming acids and bases, but we need to include naming acids and bases now. Be prepared to test your recall during our next class period in a friendly little challenge.
4. Please email me, by next Monday at noon, your answers to the following questions:
- Do you expect sodium chloride to be soluble in water at moderate temperatures? Why?
- When sodium chloride and silver nitrate are mixed, a precipitate forms. What could the precipitate be? Why?
- What is the difference between molarity and molality?
- How would you convert grams to kilograms?
Have a great week!
